A 2020 update on ADHD Advocacy by Parents for ADHD Advocacy Australia.
A year later, these issues featured in the article in the photo are still very much there. The NSW Department of Education continue to separate behaviour from disability and persist in shying away from releasing the draft NSW Discipline and Suspension policies for comment to disability advocacy groups.
Meanwhile Parents for ADHD Advocacy have continued to drive the message in the media, that students with ADHD need support & classroom adjustments by trained teachers and need safeguards in policy and implementation to prevent discriminatory suspensions.
Activities have included highlighting these issues in numerous newspaper articles, appearances on Radio as well as Q and A (Lou Kuchel), meetings with Department, meetings with politicians and immense behind the scenes collaboration with the ADHD community.Currently.
PAAA is running another survey to capture and audit suspension procedures by NSW public schools in 2020.

Over the last year, PAAA in collaboration with OLT Australia, have also spearheaded a new free short online ADHD training module for parents or anyone wanting more info on ADHD. The course includes a range of people including Drs, teachers, parents and children with ADHD sharing their experiences.
We can’t wait to launch this soon.So lots to be proud of but also much more to achieve. Thanks to the passionate superwomen and dear friends Lou Kuchel Rimmelle Freedman who have never ending energy and passion ❤️
