WE HAVE 11 DAYS LEFT TO SUBMIT FEEDBACK TO THE NSW DRAFT BEHAVIOUR STRATEGY!!!

This is the first time in 14 years that behaviour policies have been reviewed – the time is NOW to feedback on what needs to happen to protect students with ADHD from unfair punitive practices within schools as a result of their ADHD.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell has commented on the suspension data she has reviewed and the absolute imperative to reduce suspensions in the state, especially for students with a disability including younger aged students.

PAAA have already highlighted the need for the detailed suspension policy which will come into effect on 1 January 2021 to have safeguards protecting our children from unfair suspensions and repeat suspensions as a result of their ADHD and also asked for a review and improvement of the appeals process, to assist parents and principals to navigate the new policy in a fair and equitable manner.

Whilst positive steps have been taken with the wording, we need the Behaviour Strategy to protect families from discrimination, exclusion and the poor outcomes that our children face at the moment.  These safeguards have not even warranted a mention as yet.

Please review the draft Behaviour Strategy in the link below, and send your feedback by 11 October to: behaviour.strategy@det.nsw.edu.au
